In 2019, the visionary and founding president, Tonya S. Harris, had a bold idea to change the dynamics of how women served the communities of the Terrebonne, Lafourche and surrounding parishes. The vision began to unfold as Tonya reached out to a select few women, among whom are current THRIVE! members, Dr. Elena Mann (Vice-President) and Dr. Kalisha Hanley (Parliamentarian) with Adrienne Marts and Dr. Rhonesia Simmons-Woodard joining the core group shortly afterwards. Tonya then identified five specific areas of need and began to initiate community programming with like-minded women, aiming to build stronger families to build stronger communities under the name of Community Action Network - Bayou Region.

In 2023, following a refinement of membership, organizational rebranding, and the dissolution of Community Action Network – Bayou Region, The Powerhouse Collective, known as THRIVE! Bayou Region, was established to continue a legacy of service and carry forward the impactful initiatives already underway throughout the community.

Today, THRIVE! Bayou Region is composed of some of the most dynamic women in the Bayou Region—accomplished professionals, community leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare professionals, and advocates who bring diverse experiences, talents, and perspectives to our collective work.

United by a shared commitment to service and community impact, our members work collaboratively to empower people, strengthen communities, and transform tomorrow through meaningful programs, strategic partnerships, and hands-on service across the Bayou Region and beyond.
